I just stood there, rooted to the ground, eyes filling with tears that I kept wiping away. I couldn’t cry, not in front of this man.
The woman held my baby brother tight in her arms. Her wiry black hair was sticking up at all angles, tears rolled down her cheeks in multiples of two or three at a time. She was curled up on the ground at the foot of a stone wall, looking up at the man advancing on her.
‘Please,’ she whispered hoarsely, ‘please, please don’t. He’s my son. You can’t -’
‘Shut up.’
The man was clad head to toe in black clothing, with a hood over his head and a long cloak around his body. My teenage mind instantly classified him as a bad guy…I didn’t care about what his motive may be, all I knew was that my little brother was in danger.
‘NOW!’ He raised his voice and my mother cried harder, hugging her youngest son to her chest.
‘Please, I’ll do anything,’ she begged. ‘Take me instead. Leave my son alone, please!’
The man took several steps forward, one hand resting on the hilt of a sword in a scabbard at his belt. I wanted desperately just to jump on him and beat him down, just to get him away from my family. But I’d seen what he could do, and I knew I wouldn’t stand a chance. Nonetheless, my hands balled into fists with blood-lust. I had never hated anything in my life as much as I hated this man.
I saw my mother’s hand clasp around something on the ground. Slowly, she clambered to her feet and the man unsheathed his blade - a cold, cruel thing curved sleekly up so that the tip glimmered in the dim twilight surrounding us. My mother looked at me standing behind them. Before I knew what was happening, she’d opened her balled hand and launched her missile - a chunk of rock - at the man’s head. As he staggered, she ran forward and shoved my brother into my arms.
‘Varlin, run. Just run,’ she begged. Over her shoulder, I saw the man steadying himself and turning to face us. ‘Just go. Please. Don’t stop to fight, don’t be hero. Just get Zeth out of here. Go!’
She shoved me backwards and I didn’t think, I just bolted out of there. My brother was screaming protests, too young to understand I was trying to save him. I held him tight and weaved through the burning, ghostly remains of our hometown.
Somewhere behind me, a woman’s scream pierced the air. I squeezed my eyes shut and still ran, tears burning behind my eyelids.
After that one cry, there was complete silence.

I would tweak it just a bit, to make it more realistic, but keep going and write more.
First, in a situation like that, I don’t think the mom would talk so much, take that much time. Maybe something more like, "Run! Get him out of here!"
I also woudn’t refer to my mom as "the woman," would you?

I don’t have a problem with the names. I just don’t think, when the life of her child is at stake, a mother is likely to call them by their names and waste time explaining what to do- she would be more frantic and be pushing them away…

You’ve got it. But you haven’t got it, if you get what I mean.
Like, you’re vocab is great (high five), and you’re sentence structure is whacktastic (that’s a compliment. I just love the word whacktastic), but seriously; this did not hold my attention at all.

You’re probably not used to being downtrodden, because you’re writing is really good, but this reminds me of a typical fantasy/orphan/hero novel. It’s not my thing.
But, I like strange things, so this may be just a ‘me’ thing. Not you.

Transfer to a four year college or put myself through the police academy?
I am currently one semester away from transferring to a 4 year college. My parents have always stressed how important a degree from a 4 year school is to them for me and that a Bachelor’s degree should be my highest priority. I am 24 years old and will be 25 next month. I have applied to the L.A. and O.C. Sheriff’s 3 times total to no avail. I have been leaning towards getting into the Rio Hondo (California) police academy to help my chances of catching on with a different department, i figure if my training/Post certification is already paid for I will be more appealing to different departments. I am so close to fulfilling something my parents have always stressed and wanted for me, but I feel that at this point in my life school can wait, my career won’t. Kind of stuk and am lookig for some feedback.

Most law enforcement agencies place a high value on education, and many colleges offer POST certification classes (as a general rule, you would need to have a certain number of elective credits to get a degree, so why not apply POST courses toward these credits?). I would recommend completing your bachelor’s degree. If you are transferring, I assume that you are on the verge of completing a two year program, which means you should only have two more years left to go.
By the way… school WON’T wait for you. Every year that you postpone finishing makes it MUCH harder to complete courses later on (trust me, I have direct experience with this phenomenon). Plus, a career can turn years into decades. You will discover that you just don’t have time to go back to school… which would be too bad, because even if you manage to find a position, your lack of a degree could hold you back from promotions and higher pay scales.
Furthermore, your career CAN wait. 27 or 28 is still a good age for candidacy. Law enforcement agencies will place much more value upon your candidacy if you can show to them that you had the stamina to complete a degree program… plus you will be eligible for promotions and higher pay scales that are reserved to individuals with higher education (or decades of experience). The time spent away from your career will be invested in obtaining and developing skills that will be important to your career development (a bachelors degree in criminology, forensics, criminal psychology, etc would be quite useful for finding the high paying jobs in law enforcement agencies)… the reverse is NOT true.
Finally, it does not seem that finances are a critical factor here. You are not saying that you can not afford to complete a four year program, so the argument for having the police Academy pay for your training and certification (even assuming that you wouldn’t have to pay for admission to the academy itself) is not a strong argument. As I said, you could select a college that offers those classes (or that accepts credits from another nearby college that does), and complete the classes as part of your degree.
Good luck. I made the wrong choice when I followed my career instead of my studies. I really hope that you do not do the same.

While you’re trying to say, "who is America to play standards?", you’re trying to make a point that the rest of the world should be OUR standard? Why? What does the rest of the world do that makes them a better example of society? How to solve stray dog menace problem in townships?
We live in Industrial township and face this stray dog problem. It is told that catching dog is banned, by telling this our town admn . is just not doing anything and dogs are breeding in huge number and we are even scared to come out of our houses freely. What is law in India regarding this aspect. I like to learn from responsible persons who had tackled this problem . If you can’t get your authorities to act, and if there are no leash laws in your country or city, the people just might have to take desperate measures een if this means killing the stray dogs. If this is the only recourse just be sure to do so humanely and make sure only strays are killed.

If you could catch the dogs you could at least get them spayed and neutered and thus prevent more from being born.

I certainly hope you can get the authorities to take care of this problem.

If there is no animal shelter where you live you can look on the SPCA website and get some statistical information about stray dog breeding habits and the problems of dogs getting and passing diseases to humans. Not to mention dog attacks. Advise the town administration that people should be warned not to feed strays( even though that sounds awful, it’s just making the problem worse) And also try and get them to start a capture and neuter program to keep the population from growing. They definitely have to catch the dogs though, there’s no way around it. We had a similar problem in Puerto Rico, stray dogs ran in packs and scared everyone who went out. But the military police on the base would catch them and put them in the shelters to be spayed or neutered and it helped a lot.

Call animal welfare organizations (http://www.dogsindia.com/animal_welfare_ org.htm) and your local corporation and try to get them to come and sterilize the dogs.

If the dogs are killed, more will simply take their place.

Also, you can try feeding the dogs - they are generally very friendly if they are treated decently - give them leftover food, old bread, milk, etc.

There is a good chance that the same dogs that are scaring you now, you will be adoring in the coming weeks.

Only animal welfare organisations should be trusted to handle this. Stray dogs are not wild that they will always bite or even scare people. Onlyproblem i see is that they can disturb sleep by barking the whole night. If the problem is really serious they may be neutered which must be handled carefully. Govt. agencies do it in such a way, it will tear anybody’s soul apart. As already suggested , you may try treating them with kindness and some food. you will find loyal friends who will happily follow you around town .

Why not each house in your locality adopt a dog each??

i need help finding a scary movie of an evil baby called joey.?
ok the movies is old, you can tell by the way the movie was made.
the baby’s name is joey and the baby is of course evil. the mom and baby live alone in a house, in a regular neighborhood. the baby feeds on raw meet. the mother has to feed it raw meet that is one of the scenes. the baby kills people in the movie. the movie ends as the house blows up in flames because the mother decides to blow the house up and kill the baby. im sorry i cant help but thats all i can remember.
i think this movie im talking about is the second part to a previous movie. because in the movie theirs a lady that researches babies and kills them if their on her evil list. and in the end the lady shows up to kill joey but joey ends up killing her. i hope im not confusing tow movies with one. the mom i believe is played by the woman that comes out in the trilogy of terror movies. the pretty young woman. any help or guess ??

Who and how much does two tone paint job cost?
I have a 93 celica and I wanna paint red and black, black on top I just want the body colored none of that other stuff is it worth it and just trying to get the most cheapest paint available I’m not gonna have the car forever no gloss paint or candy just basic red and black

A real Professional paint job that is the best of th best can run you up to 14k but usually at your local maco or a local paint shop if they do all the body work and sanding and all that is would usually cost 1500 to 2000. If you sand the car or truck and bang out any Small dints and all that good stuff then you will save a lot, like 600-900 bucks. When you do get it painted if it sounds like a deal that is to good to be true it usually is. I bought my 95 F-250 diesel for 1000 dollars and it had been rolled on the driver side and my brother ws having his 76 mach 1 painted there and it looked Pretty good in the early stages so i paid 7000 dollars for everything and he did a crap job. My pain is peeling and cracking every were and not to mention a 1/4 inch of BONDO On the rails of my bed tried to get my money back and sued him and tried to out a lean on the shop he had put it in a different name so i took a loss. Point is to ask for references and make sure you do your Research don’t just go to one shop and have them do it or even 3 shops, find every shop you can and figure which ones you like and go and check them out, check out there references and get it done. don’t TRUST them for there word. What do you think of this for a story? (Plot Summary)?
—— Logan is a troubled kid. He’s been kicked out of to many schools to count. He is only 15 and he is being transfered to BlackForest Academy. This is his 4th school in 3 years.
—— The boarding school is much different from his other schools. Everyone is "different" to him. He finds out that the school is for "gifted" students. Why is he there then? He is just a normal kid…….isn’t he?
—— He finds out that there are four dorm buildings, all labeled. Black Blood, Blue Blood, Green Blood, and Red Blood. Each building is lage with the apropriate roof color. Each one was seperated into girl’s area and boy’s area.
—— Black Bloods are monsters. They control dark powers. Like shadows, or death. Rare Black Bloods transform. They are controled by a beast within. Most can’t control the beat, but few can.
—— Blue Bloods use their brains for power. They have psychic powers. Telekinisis, mind reading, future sight and they can blow up things with their mind.
—— Green Bloods are also called The Elementals. They are either born with fire, water, earth, or air. They are strong, but easily out-matched by the Black Bloods.
—— Red Bloods is just a fancy name for human. The only humans that get into the school are the ones who are great fighters or that are smarter than most. Humans can’t be killed by Black, Blue, or Green Bloods. They have to be killed by something human, so if a Blue Blood got his hand around a gun, the Red Blood would be dead.

I think that sound really good ! something I would definitely read it’s a really good idea too. I don’t think anyone has done it before well done! All you have to do now is make up some plot ideas ie what will Logan do at this school ? what mischief will he get in too ? and the most important question what blood group will he be in? Keep going and come up with some ideas, what you have so far is really good !
